Wrangler's Coaching Staff


Ben Van Ryn
Ben Van Ryn, President of SA Wranglers, LLC, was a first round draft pick of the Montreal Expos in 1990 coming out of high school.  Over an eleven year pro baseball career Ben played for the Expos, Dodgers, Angels, Cardinals, Braves, Reds, Cubs, Padres, Blue Jays and White Sox organizations.  He spent time in the major leagues while with the Angels, Cubs, Padres and Blue Jays.   Highlights of Ben's career include: Gulf Coast League Wins Leader; Florida State League All-Star and pitcher of the year; Texas League two-time all-star and pitcher of the year and he led the International League in appearances and holds. He also played on championship teams in the Gulf Coast, NY Penn, Texas, Pacific Coast and International Leagues. After his pro career Ben attended UTSA where he received a degree in Kinesiology with a minor in Health.  He resides in San Antonio where he has been providing private lessons and coaching select baseball teams.

Pete Villanueva

Pete attended and played baseball at Laredo Junior College where he was All-Conference and All-American.  While there he also won a league batting title.  He also attended and graduated from St. Mary's University.  At St. Mary's he won another batting title, was All-Conference and Honorable Mention All-American.  After graduating from St. Mary's, Pete went to work in the Alamo Heights School System where he served until 2008 as Head J.V. coach and assistant Varsity Coach.  In the Alamo Heights School System, Pete teaches children with special needs.  He also coaches Special Olympics bowling, swimming and basketball. 

Adrian Cantu
  

Adrian is a 2001 graduate of San Antonio Highlands High School where he was a four time first team All District player.   In 2001 he was first team All State.   Adrian played college baseball at Temple and Lamar University where he made All Conference each year.   After college he signed as a free agent with the Chillicothe Paints of the Frontier League and was an All-Star in 2008.   He finished his career in 2009 with the Gateway Grizzly’s of the Frontier League.
